Brownies will always be a popular treat in our house which might explain why I make so many variations. It’s always hard to choose between the strawberry cream cheese brownies OR the toasted coconut and caramel OR the mint brownies. Too many choices.

So the obvious thing to do is to make brownies again but this time of year they should be Halloween themed. All it takes is a cookie cutter and a little frosting and some candy eyes to make these simple treats go from boring to cute!

They are a great treat to eat along with these Mummy Pizza Toast or this Halloween Puppy Chow for an afterschool playdate or a Halloween party.

Ingredients

boxed brownie mix, prepared per box directions
frosting in black
frosting in orange or red
Wilton candy eyes
cookie cutters in cat and bat shapes

Alright, I know cookie cutters aren’t ingredients but they are essential to making these cute brownies. Choose cookie cutters that are not too intricate because otherwise it can be difficult to get the brownies out whole. This set on Amazon is an even better choice than the ones I have!

How to make this

Cut out the brownies with a cookie cutter, using a knife to assist you if needed.
Add dots of black frosting/ icing for the eyes (see picture #1).
Make sure to add the candy eyes before the frosting sets (see picture #2).
Use the orange or red frosting to add a mouth and any other embellishments you would like to add.

You can decorate these as much or as little as you want (they are your brownies and unless you share a picture with me I will never know). I would suggest you go for the less is more approach. I prefer to keep them simple with just the eyes and a mouth but my kids really liked the more decorated one. It’s totally up to you.

NOTE: Although your cute feline friends may be tempted to eat their brownie counterparts, cats should not eat brownies because even a small amount of chocolate can poison cats.
