Whether you are making biscuits or need Bisquik mix on hand to add to other recipes, you can easily make up your own homemade mix with simple pantry staples.
Add flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl. Stir to combine.
Using a pastry blender, two forks, or your fingers cut in shortening to the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 month or in the freezer for 3 months.
To make regular biscuits:
Heat oven to 450 degrees F.
Add 2 1/4 cups biscuit mix and 2/3 cup milk to a bowl. Mix until a soft dough forms. Dump dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead about 10 times just until dough is smooth. Don't over mix!
Roll out dough until it is about 1/2" thick and use a biscuit cutter to cut out about 10 biscuits. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until biscuits are golden brown.
To make drop biscuits:
Heat oven to 450 degrees F.
Add 2 cups biscuit mix and 2/3 cup milk to a bowl. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Use two spoons (or a cookie scoop) to drop 10 biscuits onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes until biscuits are golden brown.
Notes
You can do a half whole wheat, half white flour mix for a more wholesome mix.
